I consider it one of my greatest failures as a human being that I don't know how to speak Spanish. I'm so happy to have a guide that makes it seem like a not entirely intimidating endeavor.

Not any more. There are many places in the US, mostly larger metropolises were Spanish billboards and stores litter the street. However, you are definitely correct in your statement as well!

Love languages... terrible learning them. I'm hoping this page from my coworkers at Mahalo, with audio, video, and referenced links, will help me out.

I thought I spoke Spanish after two years of high school Spanish. Now, after living in Chile, Marrying a Chilean, speaking Spanish for over 20 years, Studying Spanish literature and advanced translation, in Spanish, I still feel I do not know Spanish the way I should.
I work as a project manager in Latin America and use Spanish daily. Not to dampen any hopes, but there are more levels to a language than strata in the earth's core.
I do not try to dissuade anyone--on the contrary, I prefer to see people try to learn, because that demonstrates the vision that the US is not monolingual any more.
Que tengan suerte!
